Artist impression of single occupancy room
To address a strong patient preference for privacy, we will convert two of our multi- bed wards to create six new single rooms. This will result in 26 single rooms with en suite toilets and two four bed bays, totalling 34 beds.
This will give patients increased privacy and improved facilities for their families while maintaining one four-bed bay for those who prefer more social contact and the companionship of other patients.
Improved facilities will maximise independence and dignity for patients. Special units will be installed so that patients can control their own lighting, heating, and tv; access the internet, a mini-bar style fridge and their medication.
Improvements will also include accessible toilets and disabled-access vanity units.
We are commissioning beautiful art work for each room so that when patients and visitors enter a room they will feel this is a special place to be.
All windows in the building need replacing. This will create a more comfortable environment for patients and address problems of high heat in summer and poor insulation in winter while improving light and ventilation in each room.
We anticipate that this transformed environment will lead to an increased occupancy level within the hospice, enabling us to provide care for a greater number of patients.
